Job Description

  • The candidate will lead the development and ongoing evolution of the enterprise semantic layer to ensure standardized definitions, metrics, and meanings across all data consumption.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing dimensional models and semantic abstractions that contextualize and improve the performance of analytics, BI, AI/ML, and other downstream applications.
  • The candidate must apply a use-case driven approach to identify and implement generative AI and multimodal techniques for building the semantic layer and enabling contextual insights for downstream analytics and AI use cases.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining the business context layer, including hierarchies, relationships, business rules, and event semantics.
  • The candidate will be responsible for integrating semantics seamlessly with data catalog, metadata, and lineage tooling to enable discoverability and trust.
  • The candidate must lead the adoption of the semantic layer across BI tools, dashboards, ad hoc analysis, data products, and AI-enabled analytics platforms.
  • The candidate must collaborate with the enterprise data platform and data and insights delivery teams to support the delivery of context-driven insights.
  • The candidate will be responsible for defining and maintaining canonical enterprise data models and common business entities such as customer/guest, product, store, transaction, and inventory.
  • The candidate will be responsible for leading and developing a high-performing team of data and semantic modeling experts.
  • The candidate will be responsible for fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must have 10+ years of experience in data, analytics, or information architecture, with deep expertise in data semantics and taxonomy.
  • The candidate must have experience building or managing a centralized semantic layer or metrics platform, data mesh, and data products.
  • The candidate must have at least 3+ years of senior leadership experience managing teams with high complexity or multiple concurrent projects.
  • The candidate must possess a strong understanding of semantic layers, context modeling, business metrics and KPI frameworks, and data governance and stewardship models.
  • The candidate must have experience supporting AI, machine learning, or natural language query and analytics use cases through governed semantic models.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to lead through influence in a federated organizational environment.
  • The candidate will be required to demonstrate experience collaborating with senior stakeholders at Director and VP levels across business and technology teams.
  • The candidate must acknowledge the presence of choice in every moment and take personal responsibility for their actions and decisions.
  • The candidate must possess an entrepreneurial spirit and continuously seek innovative ways to achieve strong results.
