Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for performing and supervising routine maintenance activities and ensuring technicians and building service workers carry out their assigned duties.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing or assisting with on-the-job training for maintenance staff and conducting facility orientations for new employees.
  • The candidate will be responsible for scheduling staff, submitting payroll information, and completing employee appraisal forms.
  • The candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining a preventative maintenance program for buildings and mechanical equipment.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing or directing routine maintenance, cleaning activities, and minor building repairs.
  • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety of employees and the public by enforcing municipal and W.C.B. safety regulations.
  • The candidate will be responsible for operating, servicing, and repairing computerized building management systems.
  • The candidate will be responsible for assisting with the coordination of program requirements and special events, including space allocation, setup, staffing, and security arrangements.
  • The candidate will be responsible for purchasing equipment and supplies, maintaining inventory records, preparing cost estimates, and overseeing contract services.
  • The candidate will be responsible for coordinating technical service providers and contracted trades.
  • The candidate will be responsible for coordinating major building maintenance projects, including facility shutdowns, and monitoring on-site construction activities.
  • The candidate will be responsible for assisting with the preparation and management of the Centre’s Facility Operations budget.
  • The candidate will be responsible for delivering services with minimal disruption to facility programs.
  • The candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining safety procedures for the safe handling and use of chemicals within the facility.
  • The candidate will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and maintaining operational procedures and equipment labelling.
  • The candidate will be responsible for securing and maintaining all equipment operation manuals.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining parts inventories and utility and equipment logs.
  • The candidate will be responsible for overseeing building security, lock systems, and key distribution and control.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing other related duties as required.
  • The candidate will be responsible for operating and servicing water heating and water filtration equipment and maintaining swimming pool water purity.
  • The candidate will be responsible for checking, controlling, and maintaining pool filtering systems and water chemistry regulating equipment.
  • The candidate will be responsible for operating and servicing ammonia refrigeration plant equipment and systems.
  • The candidate will be responsible for installing and maintaining ice sheets in accordance with established industry standards.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must have completed Grade 12 or an equivalent educational qualification.
  • The candidate will be required to have four years of maintenance experience in recreation or commercial buildings, including pool and ice rink facilities, and one year of supervisory experience.
  • The candidate will be required to hold a current WHMIS certification obtained within the past year.
  • The candidate must possess a valid Fifth Class Power Engineering certificate.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • The candidate will be required to hold and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driverโ€™s Licence.
  • The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills, along with a commitment to maintaining safe and efficient facility operations.
