Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre is located at 401 N Cumberland Street, Thunder Bay, ON P7A 4P7. The company is currently looking for applications for the role of Street outreach worker. We are in search of a self-disciplined individual with outstanding interpersonal skills. The selected applicant will be required to join and take their responsibilities at the earliest. The open positions are for Term or contract or Full time job. The candidate must be available to work day and evening shifts, must be willing to work flexible hours, and must be available to work from 09:00 to 17:00.

Job Description

  • The candidate must prepare reports or case histories.

  • The candidate must supervise the activities of clients living in group homes and half-way houses.
  • The candidate must assist offenders in pre-release and release planning.
  • The candidate must implement behaviour management programs.
  • The candidate must conduct individual and group counselling sessions.
  • The candidate must establish a registry of special needs support workers.
  • The candidate must liaise with other social services agencies and health care providers involved with clients.
  • The candidate must develop service intervention logic models and outcome measures.
  • The candidate must maintain program statistics for evaluation and research purposes.
  • The candidate must screen, recruit, and train volunteers and support staff.
  • The candidate must assist clients or guests with special needs.
  • The candidate must accompany clients to appointments and social outings.
  • The candidate must manage events.
  • The candidate must manage knowledge.
  • The candidate must offer mentoring.
  • The candidate must have food safety and handling skills.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • The candidate must have a College/CEGEP education or equivalent experience.
  • A candidate with experience is an asset.
  • The candidate must supervise 1 to 2 people, 3 to 4 people, 5 to 10 people, 11 to 15 people, and 16 to 20 people.
  • The candidate must hold an Emergency Child Care First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • The candidate must be able to handle weight up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
  • The candidate should be accurate.
  • The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The candidate must be interpersonally aware.
  • The candidate should have good judgmental skills.
  • The candidate should give importance to values and ethics.
  • The candidate should be client focused.
  • The candidate should be organized and flexible.
  • The candidate must be capable of acting independently and taking the initiative.

  • The candidate must work in environments related to child welfare; personal and social adjustment and health (including substance abuse, gambling, and behaviour disorders); socio-economic needs or conditions (such as housing, nutrition, unemployment, and financial assistance); early intervention programming for at-risk youth; crime prevention; and services for the homeless.

Work setting

  • The candidate should work in an urban area with a high population density.
  • The candidate must work in a social service or charity agency, delivering programs and support that address community needs and promote social welfare.
  • The candidate must work in a shelter for the homeless, providing support, programs, and services to assist individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • The candidate must work in a community centre to organize programs, manage facilities, and engage with community members.

  • The target audience includes aboriginal groups, females, males, persons with an intellectual disability, persons with mental health disabilities, and the street population.

  • The candidate must be specialized in the area of community services.
