Job Description

  • The candidate will be expected to respond to customer complaints or concerns.
  • The candidate will be expected to coach colleagues on new methods or techniques of work.
  • The candidate must have mountain driving experience.
  • The candidate must maintain professionalism in customer service.
  • The candidate will be expected to plan travel, itineraries, and reservations.
  • The candidate must drive as part of a two-person team or convoy.
  • The candidate must drive lighter, special-purpose trucks.
  • The candidate will be expected to load and unload cargo.
  • The candidate will be required to obtain special permits and other documents required for international cargo transport.
  • The candidate must operate and drive straight or articulated trucks in order to transport goods and materials.
  • The candidate will be responsible for overseeing vehicle condition and inspecting tyres, lights, brakes, cold storage, and other equipment.
  • The candidate will have to pay for and receive payments for goods.
  • The candidate will be expected to make brake adjustments.
  • The candidate will be required to perform roadside emergency repairs.
  • The candidate will be expected to perform pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections as well as oversee all vehicle aspects.
  • The candidate will be expected to perform preventive maintenance.
  • The candidate will be expected to receive and relay information to central dispatch.
  • The candidate will be required to record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled, and fuel consumption.
  • The candidate will be responsible for tarping and ensuring cargo safety and security.
  • The candidate will be required to transport and handle dangerous goods.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • There are no standard education requirements such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 3 to 5 years of experience in a related industry.
  • The candidate must have Air Brakes Endorsement Certificate, Bear awareness Certification, Class 5/5F/G Licence (cars, small trucks and other 2-axle vehicles), S-100 basic fire suppression and safety training Certificate, Working at heights training Certificate, Commercial Driver Registration Program (CDRP) Card, Defensive Driving Course, Driver’s License (Class 1 or A), Extended Trailer Combination Permit or Endorsement Certificate, First Aid Certificate, Hydrogen Sulphide Awareness (H2S) Certificate, Pro-Trucker/Smart Driver (fuel efficiency) Training Certificate, Professional Driver Improvement Certificate, Skid Control Training Certificate, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certificate and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate.
  • The candidate must be able to handle weight up to 13.5 kg (30 lbs).
  • The candidate should have effective interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate should have excellent oral and written communication.

Experience and Specialization

Documentation Knowledge

  • The candidate should have strong documentation knowledge in Accident or incident reports, Bill of lading, Dangerous goods occurrence reports, Driver logbook, Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip), Maintenance and repair reports and Trip reports.

Type of Trucking and Equipment

  • The ideal candidate will have prior experience with trucking and equipment such as a roll-off truck, stone slinger, extended length tractor-trailer combination, liquid bulk, tractor-trailer, tractor-trailer A train, and tractor-trailer B train.

Communication Systems Experience

  • The candidate should be proficient in Operating GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment.
  • The candidate should be well-versed in the use of Trip recorder (on-board computer) and Citizens band (CB) radio.

Transportation/Travel Experience

  • The candidate should be knowledgeable about the local area.
  • The candidate should have experience in running Long-haul and Short-haul trips.

Additional Information

Security and Safety

  • The candidate must have a valid passport.
  • The candidate should undergo a thorough criminal background check, driver’s licence validity check, driving record check (abstract), drug test, and medical exam.
