Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for supervising a team of Health Care Workers, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, and Registered Nurses.
  • The candidate will be responsible for training and orienting new hires.
  • The candidate will be responsible for directing the delivery of comprehensive nursing services.
  • The candidate will be required to work collaboratively with YFPS partners, including Youth Justice, Youth Custody Services, and the Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre.
  • The candidate will be responsible for supporting the well-being of supervised staff.
  • The candidate will be responsible for supporting the delivery of critical care to vulnerable youth.
  • The candidate will be responsible for supporting youth experiencing behavioral issues, addictions, and mental health challenges.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized university.
  • The candidate must be licensed to practice and registered or eligible to register under the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • The candidate must confirm that any degree obtained outside of Canada has been assessed for equivalency through International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES) and must provide a basic report by the closing date of the posting to be considered.
  • The candidate must be registered or eligible for registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • The candidate must hold current CPR certification.
  • The candidate must provide First Aid coverage and medical support for staff as required under WorkSafeBC guidelines as a condition of employment.
  • The candidate must have a minimum of 2 years related nursing experience, such as mental health nursing experience or psychiatric nursing experience.
  • The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.

  • The candidate must complete a Criminal Record Check (CRC) and a Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) as a condition of employment.

Work conditions and physical capabilities

  • The candidate will be required to work a combination of day shifts, evening shifts, and/or night shifts.
  • The candidate must be willing to work in environments where youth may present aggressive, violent, or unpredictable behaviour.
