Job Description
- Legal Counsel, Individual Wealth is a permanent full time legal position supporting the company’s wealth and asset management business.
- This role works with legal professionals and business partners on investment funds, securities law and corporate legal matters.

Responsibilities
- Provide practical legal advice to business and functional partners on wealth and asset management matters.
- Draft disclosure documents for investment fund offerings.
- Draft and negotiate contracts and exemptive relief applications for retail investment products.
- Support new product development and product reorganizations.
- Support institutional investment management activities.
- Negotiate sub advisor, custodial, trading, service and other corporate agreements.
- Research legal and regulatory matters and provide guidance.
- Develop legal structures for new investment products and services.
- Review marketing materials for legal compliance.
Requirements
- A Law Degree and membership in good standing with a provincial Bar are required.
- Work background of 3+ years in a law firm, legal team or securities regulatory body is required.
- Strong knowledge of National Instrument 31 103 and National Instruments 81 101 through 81 107, investment funds, pooled funds, institutional investing and securities or corporate law is required.
- Knowledge of segregated funds is an asset.
- Independent Review Committee work background is a strong asset.
- Can work with tasks independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interaction skills with a practical and solution focused approach are required.
- Demonstrated skill in drafting agreements or public disclosure documents is required.
- Can work with managing projects through to completion.
- High attention to detail is required.
- Strong problem solving, time management and management skills are required.
- Willingness to learn new topics and work in a changing business environment is required.
- General investment knowledge and completion of the Canadian Securities Course or Canadian Investment Funds Course are assets.
- Work background supporting portfolio managers or private wealth is an asset.
