Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for creating, planning, implementing, and evaluating recreation programs, services, and special events.
  • The candidate will recruit, orient, train, supervise, and evaluate program leadership staff and coordinate training activities for leadership staff.
  • The candidate will be responsible for scheduling and coordinating programs, facilities, and leadership staff.
  • The candidate will be responsible for evaluating program instructional staff and reviewing program quality based on participant evaluations.
  • The candidate will be responsible for conducting community and user needs analyses when appropriate.
  • The candidate will develop and implement a marketing and promotional plan for the assigned program area with the supervisor’s approval.
  • The candidate will prepare program brochure content and other program advertising materials.
  • The candidate will be responsible for preparing draft budget estimates for assigned programs and/or facility areas with the supervisor.
  • The candidate will maintain and operate within the approved program budget as directed.
  • The candidate will make routine program purchases.
  • The candidate will ensure the effective use of public resources by recommending ways to optimize program enrolment and facility use to the supervisor.
  • The candidate will provide leadership in promoting customer service and public relations.
  • The candidate will perform other related duties as required.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must hold a two-year post-secondary diploma in recreation, leisure studies, or a related field.
  • The candidate must have at least two years of experience in program planning and staff supervision.
  • The candidate must hold the required program specialty certification where applicable.
  • The candidate must hold a current BCPRA, CanFitPro, or equivalent Group Fitness certification.
  • The candidate must demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills, along with experience or knowledge in fitness programming.
  • The candidate may be considered if they have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The candidate must hold a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence, as required.
  • The candidate must hold an Occupation First Aid Level II certification, as required.

Security and safety

  • The candidate must successfully complete a satisfactory Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector (PIC-VS) as a condition of employment.

Work conditions and physical capabilities

  • The candidate will be required to perform some physical activity as part of the role.
  • The candidate will work in an office environment as part of the role.
  • The successful candidate will be required to work 35 hours per week, including occasional evening and weekend shifts.
