Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for implementing archaeological management throughout multi-phase NCTL design and construction and working with multiple lines of business while fostering relationships with regulatory bodies and First Nations organizations.
  • The candidate will contribute to the development of project-specific best management practices and support annual work planning, archaeological fieldwork tracking, BCER/HCA permit oversight, tracking, and management.
  • The candidate will collaborate with the BC Hydro heritage team and support the development of project mitigation plans while leading multi-party technical working groups and developing mitigation, monitoring, and protection planning.
  • The candidate will manage contractors responsible for fieldwork and impact assessment, including procurement, cost control, contract management, quality assurance coordination, peer review, and monthly tracking of invoices, progress, forecasts, variances, scope, reporting, and deliverables.
  • The candidate must have experience in heritage management for large-scale construction projects, preferably in the Central Interior and Northwest Coast, across all project phases, including projects undergoing Environmental Assessment review processes.
  • The candidate will manage archaeological or environmental contractors.
  • The candidate must coordinate with regulatory agencies to support project compliance requirements.
  • The candidate must be familiar with the BCER archaeological process.
  • The candidate will engage in public and stakeholder consultation activities.
  • The candidate will consult with First Nations and Aboriginal communities in coordination with BC Hydro’s Indigenous Relations team.
  • The candidate will implement and follow cultural or Traditional Land Use Studies.
  • The candidate must possess advanced technical writing skills and prepare technical reports for regulators and senior management within BC Hydro.
  • The candidate must be able to negotiate with contractors, regulators, stakeholders, and First Nations on heritage issues.
  • The candidate must have an awareness of and interest in BC Hydro’s strategic direction.
  • The candidate must be able to communicate technical information during public meetings, consultations, and hearings.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should hold a university degree or post-graduate degree in social sciences or resource management with a major in Archaeology and/or Anthropology and experience in research, scientific studies, investigative methods, report preparation, and project management.
  • The candidate must have a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible technical leadership experience conducting investigative archaeological studies, including coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and managing regulatory relations.
  • The candidate must possess strong analytical and planning skills along with a comprehensive understanding of cultural heritage and archaeology issues, including historic and current Aboriginal issues.
  • The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication capabilities.
  • The candidate must be a Registered Professional Consulting Archaeologist (RPCA) with the British Columbia Association of Professional Archaeologists (BCAPA) or demonstrate clear qualifications to obtain RPCA registration with BCAPA.
  • The candidate must maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing as a condition of employment.
