Operations Officer

The Operations Officer position requires candidates to work at the Canadian Coast Guard headquarters which the National Defence department operates from its main office in Montréal Island. The system enables marine operations through its capacity to monitor and manage vessel and aircraft and equipment movements across various operational programs.

Emergency preparedness and response operations occur within Regional Operations Centers which operate continuously throughout the day and night. Your responsibilities will include overseeing operations that support multiple services which include Coast Guard operations and fisheries protection and assistance to Royal Canadian Mounted Police operations.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Plan, deploy, and track vessels, aircraft, vehicles and equipment
  • Support senior management and external clients with operational needs
  • Maintain emergency preparedness at all times
  • Lead initial response activities during emergency situations
  • Provide updates and reports to management
  • Work with different programs including Coast Guard and marine services

Requirements

  • A secondary school diploma or an acceptable mix of education, training and experience is required.
  • Experience in written and oral interactions such as reports, presentations and briefings is required.
  • Significant experience in operations centers, ports, marine industry or marine services is required.
  • Experience in preparing reports is required.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Coast Guard programs and services is expected.
  • Knowledge of marine industry regulations in Canada is expected.
  • Strong written and oral interaction skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently is required.
  • Demonstrating integrity, respect, judgement and initiative is required.
  • Bilingual proficiency (BBB/BBB) is required.
  • Willingness to travel is required.
  • Willingness to work overtime on short notice is required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to support 24/7 service is required.
  • Willingness to be on call and respond to emergencies is required.
  • Willingness to wear a Canadian Coast Guard uniform is required.
  • Secret security clearance is required.
