Job description

Prepare flower beds and planting areas by digging, tilling and raking
Maintain flower beds, greenhouse plants and other displays
Support planting, transplanting and growth of plants
Prepare and apply chemical treatments when required
Maintain parks including litter control and snow removal
Operate grounds maintenance equipment and vehicles
Deliver plants and materials to different locations
Respond to horticultural questions from the public
Keep tools and equipment clean and working

Job requirements

Diploma or certificate in horticulture or an equivalent mix of education and related background
Considerable background working as a gardener
Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License
Ability to obtain an Ontario Landscape
Exterminator’s License within 6 months
May require Structural Greenhouse or Interior Plant Exterminator Licence
Knowledge of plant care, fertilizers, pest control and horticultural methods
Can work outdoors in all weather conditions
Physically capable of performing gardening duties
