Hudson’s of Stratford based in 141 Downie St, Stratford, ON N5A 1X3 is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Furniture Mover who are self-motivated and have good interpersonal skills. Hudson’s of Stratford is a family-run Furniture and Mattress store. In 1912, our founder, Harry Shapiro, sold dry goods door-to-door to the people of Stratford from a horse-drawn cart. As his company grew and prospered, he was able to open a storefront. Because Stratford was a major railway hub, this location was strategically located between the rail yards to the south and the downtown city centre. Originally known as Stratford House Furnishings, the name was changed to Hudson’s in the early postwar years, and we have remained Hudson’s ever since.

We make every effort to provide our customers with a good selection of Canadian-made products. Here are some of the brands we carry: Starcraft Furniture, Simmons Beautyrest, Galaxy Bedding, King Koil, Catnapper, Ashley, Best, Titus Furniture, Mazin Furniture, IFDC, Modern Furniture, and Leather Living are just a few of the brands available. We expanded to provide our customers with a wider range of options and prices. The candidate who got selected will be required to start work as soon as possible. Job Description

  • The candidate will be required to pack and unpack goods
  • The candidate will be expected to package merchandise.
  • The candidate would be responsible for transporting and distributing materials and goods
  • The candidate will be responsible for storing cargo and materials.
  • The candidate will be responsible for picking orders and stocking shelves.
  • The candidate will be required to load, unload, and move materials and products using a variety of equipment.
  • The candidate will be required to load, unload and move products and materials by hand or with basic material handling equipment
  • The candidate will be expected to create labels and affix them to merchandise.
  • The candidate will be required to install, lash and secure goods.
  • The candidate will be required to prepare furniture for moving by wrapping it in plastic wrap or blankets to protect it from scratches or stains.
  • The candidate will be in charge of ensuring that no objects are destroyed during the move.
  • The candidate will be responsible for relocating furniture to the requested locations at the new location.
  • The candidate will be responsible for taking inventory of items and ensuring that no items are lost during transportation.
  • The candidate will be expected to respond to donor, client, customer, and community partner enquiries and requests in an informed and professional manner. When necessary, provide problem-solving solutions.
  • The candidate will be expected to follow the crew leader’s instructions and follow all corporate regulations and safety rules.
  • The candidate must do all tasks in accordance with the company’s safety guidelines.
  • The candidate will be expected to complete work within the parameters of the man-hour estimate.
  • The candidate will be required to display professional conduct, courtesy, and manners when entering and performing work in the customer’s home or office
  • While representing the firm and delivering customer service, the candidate will be required to wear a company-approved uniform and maintain a clean and professional look.
  • The candidate will be required to attach straps or other lifting devices to furniture to prevent it from falling off the truck or out of the moving van.

  • Previous experience is not mandatory.
  • The candidate should have a thorough Criminal record check.

Work Setting

  • The candidate will be required to work in Retail, wholesale establishment or distribution centre.

Vehicle and Equipment Experience

  • The candidate should have prior experience with Dollies and hand trucks.

Own Tools/Equipment

  • Candidates are required to wear steel-toed safety boots.

Work Site Environment

  • The candidate should be willing to work in an outdoor weather conditions for long hours including extreme heat or cold weather.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

  • The candidate must be able to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • The candidate should be willing to work under pressure.
  • The candidate should be required to perform repetitive tasks on frequent basis.
  • The candidate should have an eye for details.
  • The candidate should be prepared for doing physically challenging tasks as part of daily work.
  • The candidate must finished the work with in the given time line.
  • The candidate should be required to handle heavy loads as part of routine work.
  • The candidate should be willing to work for long hours in bending, crouching and kneeling positions.
  • The candidate must be able to walk forward, backward, side to side, and or up and down stairs while carrying furniture.
