Job Description
- The candidate will be responsible for preparing and processing import and export documents, as well as other forms, on behalf of clients.
- The candidate will be responsible for informing clients about available cargo space, destinations, rates, and departures.
- The candidate will be required to use power of attorney to sign import and export documents on behalf of clients.
- The candidate will be expected to arrange for the payment of duties and taxes, as well as the storage and transportation of imported goods.
- The candidate must arrange for bonds to cover duty goods.
- The candidate will be required to prepare contracts and other documents.
- The candidate must advise clients on export and import restrictions.
- The candidate will be expected to provide clients with tariff system advice.
- The candidate will be expected to provide clients with advice on letters of credit.
- The candidate will be expected to advise clients on insurance needs and other customs-related issues.
- The candidate will be required to arrange for cargo or ship insurance coverage.
- The candidate will be expected to arrange for ship registration and licencing.
Job Requirements
- The candidate should be fluent in English language.
- The candidate must have a College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a programme lasting one to two years, or equivalent experience.
- The ideal candidate will have at least 2 to 3 years of experience in a related industry.
- The candidate must have a Certificate from the Canadian Society of Customs Brokers, a Qualification Certificate from the Canadian Society of Customs Brokers, and a Customs Broker Licence – Customs and Excise.
Experience and specialization
Customs broker specialization
- The candidate must be knowledgeable about refunds and drawbacks, tariffs, and commodities.
Ship broker specialization
- The candidate must be knowledgeable in the following areas: dry cargo space, liquid cargo space, container cargo space, time charter, ship sales, yacht and sailboat sales, and power boat sales.

- The candidate must have a basic security clearance.
- The candidate should be subjected to a thorough criminal background check.
