Job Description

  • The candidate will be required to report delays, mechanical problems and accidents
  • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that para-transit passengers board the vehicle safely.
  • The candidate will be expected to direct passengers during emergency evacuation procedures.
  • The candidate must deal with difficult passengers and resolve conflicts.
  • The candidate will be required to interact with the general public.
  • The candidate will be required to fill out logbooks and write reports.
  • The candidate will be responsible for pre-trip, en route, and post-trip vehicle inspections, as well as overseeing all aspects of the vehicle.
  • The candidate will be required to use two-way radio systems to communicate with passengers, dispatchers, and other drivers.
  • The candidate would be responsible for operating buses, school busses or streetcars to transport passengers
  • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring children’s safety when boarding and exiting buses, as well as crossing the street while the bus is stopped.
  • The candidate will be expected to maintain control of student activities while travelling in order to avoid distractions or behaviours that could jeopardise safety.
  • When necessary, the candidate would be responsible for assisting with bus loading and unloading.
  • The candidate will be required to make roadside repairs in the event of an emergency.
  • The candidate will be required to adjust brakes.
  • The candidate will be required to follow accident procedures if an accident occurs.
  • The candidate will be required to drive with extreme caution.
  • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all passengers have valid bus tickets.
  • The candidate must follow driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods), as well as company policies and procedures.
  • The candidate will be required to make frequent stops, often only a few blocks apart, and when a passenger requests one.
  • The candidate will be expected to obey and follow all traffic laws.
  • Before driving, the candidate must ensure that any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected.
  • The candidate must be aware of traffic and weather conditions, as well as ensure passenger safety.
  • The candidate must adhere to the planned route and schedule for departure times and stops.
  • The candidate will be expected to check vehicle safety features such as tyres, brakes, turn signals, mechanical equipment, and so on on a regular basis.
  • The candidate will be responsible for tracking and reporting fuel consumption, mileage, and passenger counts.
  • The candidate would be responsible for responding to emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • The candidate would be in charge of keeping the vehicle clean.
  • The candidate would be in charge of completing the bus route on time and stopping at all stops.
  • The candidate would be responsible for following a specific timetable while on duty.
  • The candidate would be in charge of assisting passengers with disabilities to board the bus.
