Job Description

  • The candidate must plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, utilizing computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS), or other navigation devices to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
  • The candidate will be responsible for coaching colleagues on new methods or work techniques.
  • The candidate must maintain a professional demeanour in customer service.
  • The candidate must load and unload goods.
  • The candidate must operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials safely and efficiently.
  • The candidate must inspect the vehicle’s condition, including the brakes, tires, lights, and other essential components.
  • The candidate must perform brake adjustments.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections, as well as overseeing all aspects of the vehicle.
  • The candidate must perform preventive maintenance.
  • The candidate will be responsible for receiving and relaying information to central dispatch.
  • The candidate will be responsible for recording cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.
  • The candidate will be responsible for tarping and ensuring the safety and security of cargo.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • The candidate must have a certificate of Secondary (high) school graduation.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 1 to 2 years of experience in a related industry.
  • The candidate must have an AZ class license and a DZ class license.
  • The candidate must be able to handle weights of more than 100 lbs (45 kg).
  • The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.
  • The candidate must be capable of acting independently and taking initiative.

Work site environment

  • The candidate must be able to work in wet/damp, hot, and cold/refrigerated conditions.
  • The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration despite these conditions.
  • The candidate must work in an environment with a high concentration of odours.

Work setting

  • The candidate must be able to work in multiple locations to support employees stationed at various worksites.

Experience and specialization

Documentation knowledge

  • The candidate must be knowledgeable about accident or incident reports, inspection reports (including pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip reports), maintenance and repair reports, and trip reports.

Transportation/travel experience

  • The candidate must have travel experience in the local area.
  • The candidate must have experience with short-haul transportation or travel.

  • The candidate must undergo a driver’s licence validity check and provide a driving record (abstract).
