Job Description
- The candidate will be responsible for coaching colleagues on new methods or work techniques.
- The candidate must drive as part of a two-person team or convoy.
- The candidate must load and unload goods.
- The candidate must operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
- The candidate must inspect the vehicle’s condition, including the brakes, tires, lights, and other essential components.
- The candidate must be able to perform emergency roadside repairs.
- The candidate will be responsible for performing pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections, as well as overseeing all vehicle aspects.
- The candidate will be responsible for receiving and relaying information to central dispatch.
- The candidate will be responsible for recording cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.
- The candidate will be responsible for tarping and ensuring cargo safety and security.
Job Requirements
- The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
- The candidate must have a certificate or diploma in other trades or equivalent experience.
- The ideal candidate will have at least 1 to 2 years of experience in a related industry.
- The ability to communicate in Swahili, Tigrinya, and Tagalog is considered an asset.
- The candidate must have a Class 5/5F/G Licence (cars, small trucks and other 2-axle vehicles), a Driver’s License (Class 1 or A), and a First Aid Certificate.
- The candidate must be able to lift more than 45 kg (100 lbs).
- The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.

- The candidate should be organized and flexible.
- The candidate should have good judgmental skills.

Experience and specialization
Documentation knowledge
- The candidate must be knowledgeable about accident or incident reports, bill of lading, driver logbooks, inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip), maintenance and repair reports and trip reports.
Type of trucking and equipment
- The candidate has experience in operating flatbed, straight truck (4,600 kg+ or 10,000 lbs+ with 3+ axles), and tow truck.
Communication systems experience
- The candidate will be responsible for operating GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigational equipment.
Transportation/travel experience
- The candidate has transportation and travel experience at the local, provincial/territorial, and regional levels.
- The candidate must have both long-haul and short-haul travel experience.

Security and safety
- The candidate must have a valid passport.
- The candidate must undergo a criminal record check, driver’s licence validity check, driving record check (abstract), and drug test.
