We are in search of a self-disciplined individual with outstanding interpersonal skills. The selected applicant will be required to join and take on their responsibilities at the earliest. The open positions are for a Term, contract, or Full-time job. The timings of shifts may be Day, Evening, Night, Weekend, On-call, Flexible Hours and Morning. The LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) has granted approval for the Truck driver, heavy truck position.

Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for coaching colleagues on new methods or work techniques.
  • The candidate must drive as part of a two-person team or convoy.
  • The candidate must load and unload goods.
  • The candidate must operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
  • The candidate must inspect the vehicle’s condition, including the brakes, tires, lights, and other essential components.
  • The candidate must be able to perform emergency roadside repairs.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections, as well as overseeing all vehicle aspects.
  • The candidate will be responsible for receiving and relaying information to central dispatch.
  • The candidate will be responsible for recording cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.
  • The candidate will be responsible for tarping and ensuring cargo safety and security.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • The candidate must have a certificate or diploma in other trades or equivalent experience.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 1 to 2 years of experience in a related industry.
  • The ability to communicate in Swahili, Tigrinya, and Tagalog is considered an asset.
  • The candidate must have a Class 5/5F/G Licence (cars, small trucks and other 2-axle vehicles), a Driver’s License (Class 1 or A), and a First Aid Certificate.
  • The candidate must be able to lift more than 45 kg (100 lbs).
  • The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • The candidate should be organized and flexible.
  • The candidate should have good judgmental skills.
  • The candidate should be reliable.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.

Work setting

  • The candidate should work from a remote location, which is the practice of employees doing their jobs from a location other than a central office operated by the employer.
  • The candidate must work in multiple locations to support employees stationed at different worksites.
  • The candidate should be willing to relocate and be ready to move to a new city/different city for a job.

Experience and specialization

Documentation knowledge

  • The candidate must be knowledgeable about accident or incident reports, bill of lading, driver logbooks, inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip), maintenance and repair reports and trip reports.

Type of trucking and equipment

  • The candidate has experience in operating flatbed, straight truck (4,600 kg+ or 10,000 lbs+ with 3+ axles), and tow truck.

Communication systems experience

  • The candidate will be responsible for operating GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigational equipment.

Transportation/travel experience

  • The candidate has transportation and travel experience at the local, provincial/territorial, and regional levels.
  • The candidate must have both long-haul and short-haul travel experience.

Additional information

Security and safety

  • The candidate must have a valid passport.
  • The candidate must undergo a criminal record check, driver’s licence validity check, driving record check (abstract), and drug test.

Transportation/travel information

  • The candidate must be able to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
  • The candidate must have a valid driver’s licence.
  • The candidate must be willing to travel for extended periods.
  • The candidate must be willing to travel overnight.
