Job Description

  • The candidate must plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
  • The candidate must maintain professionalism in customer service.
  • The candidate must load and unload goods.
  • The candidate must operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
  • The candidate must inspect the vehicle’s condition, including the brakes, tires, lights, and other essential components.
  • The candidate must be able to perform emergency roadside repairs.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections, as well as overseeing all vehicle aspects.
  • The candidate must perform preventive maintenance.
  • The candidate will be responsible for receiving and relaying information to central dispatch.
  • The candidate will be responsible for recording cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled, and fuel consumption.

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • There are no standard education requirements, such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
  • A candidate with experience is an asset.
  • The candidate must have an Air Brakes Endorsement Certification and a Driver’s License (Class 1 or A).

Type of trucking and equipment

  • The candidate must have experience operating refrigerated trucks, straight trucks (4,600 kg / 10,000 lbs+ with 3+ axles), and tractor-trailers.

Communication systems experience

  • The candidate must have experience using Citizens Band (CB) radios, operating GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment, and using a trip recorder (on-board computer).

Transportation/travel experience

  • The candidate must have both long-haul and short-haul travel experience.
  • The candidate must have transportation and travel experience at provincial/territorial levels.

  • The candidate must undergo a criminal record check, a driver’s licence validity check, and a driving record check (abstract).
