Job Description

  • The candidate must act as a project leader and conduct the planning, organization, and implementation of forecasting studies for key industrial sub-sectors, including oil and gas, mining, forestry, emerging industries such as AI, data centres, and hydrogen, as well as load and market research programs and customer surveys.
  • The candidate must proactively identify emerging load, economic, customer, and end-use factors that may influence future industrial demand.
  • The candidate must understand industrial customers’ expansion, electrification, and decarbonization roadmaps to support future demand planning.
  • The candidate must translate policy and regulatory changes into long-term load forecasting scenarios.
  • The candidate must synthesize and communicate load forecast information to the Executive, Board, Integrated Planning teams, BC Hydro stakeholders, and external regulatory parties through applicable processes.
  • The candidate must coordinate the efforts of consultants, data providers, and department peers to support the development of industrial sector forecasts and advise the manager on budget requirements.
  • The candidate must direct, develop, and maintain economic models and relationships to support accurate forecasting activities while ensuring appropriate modelling methodologies and data quality.
  • The candidate must regularly monitor the performance of existing forecasting models and processes, evaluate industry developments, and recommend improvements to enhance forecasting capabilities.
  • The candidate will be responsible for proactively developing and managing strong working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • The candidate must plan, organize, and implement the annual forecast work schedule while coordinating sector forecast integration with regional and system load forecasts and ensuring alignment with regulatory applications and capital planning cycles.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must have graduated with a post-secondary degree in relevant areas such as economics, engineering, business, or another related discipline, with a Master’s degree preferred.
  • The candidate must have 6 – 8 years of relevant experience with exposure to industrial project development proposals, existing industrial operations analysis, policy analysis, energy industry developments, forecasting, data management, and analytics.
  • The candidate must demonstrate competency with the MS Office suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • The candidate must demonstrate an interest in process management and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to design and build analytical models and conduct industrial sector market research.
  • The candidate must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • The candidate must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare PowerPoint slides, write briefing notes, and deliver presentations to senior leaders.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of multidisciplinary teams consisting of consultants and employees.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to build effective relationships and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • The candidate must have an understanding of how energy is currently used and how energy consumption may change in the future across one or more of BC Hydro’s major customer groups, including heavy industry, natural gas production, processing and transport, mining, forestry, and data centres, which is considered an asset.
  • The candidate must have an understanding of the operational profiles, production cycles, and energy requirements of major industrial sectors, which will be considered an asset.
  • The candidate must have a Certified Energy Manager designation, which will be considered an asset.
