Sous Chef

The City of Mississauga has released a notification in which they’re inviting candidates for the post of Sous Chef. They must be hands on in the food production for high volume facilities, while maintaining all of the kitchen equipment and operational systems. They must be good at menu planning and development with costing information. They will plan and coordinate events including buffets, platted, family style and BBQ’s. They will supervise, train, coach and mentor part time and seasonal staff. They work closely with the Executive Chef to maintain the operating budget.

Job description

  • Candidates must conduct monthly inventory counts and exercise portion control and efficient product management.
  • They will order, receive and verify all food products and kitchen supplies. 
  • They will comply with all health and safety policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • They will act as the supervisor responsible for all kitchen operations in the absence of the Executive Chef.

Job requirement

  • Candidates must complete Post secondary education in Culinary Arts or equivalent with 2 years experience.
  • They must have Red Seal Certification or recognized International Equivalent. 
  • They should have valid Food Handlers Certification.

Work setting

  • Candidates must have excellent interpersonal, customer service, teamwork, oral and written communication skills. 
  • They must be proficient in computer software application.
  • They should possess a valid Emergency First Aid and CPR B certification.
  • They must have the physical strength to lift up to 50lbs.
