Job Description
- Senior Technical Support Specialist 1 supports enterprise infrastructure systems and large scale corporate data centre operations for the City of Toronto.
- This is a full time temporary 12 month position based at 703 Don Mills Road in North York.
- The role follows a Monday to Friday routine with 35 work hours each week.
- Staff members work on consulting, architecture, infrastructure planning and cloud technology projects.
- The position supports enterprise software, network systems, data storage and messaging platforms.
- The work setting includes technical leadership, project coordination and support for city wide technology services.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement infrastructure solutions and technical system plans.
Lead technical project teams through planning, development and implementation stages. - Supervise assigned project staff and review daily work activities.
- Provide technical advice to business users, vendors and technical teams.
- Review infrastructure requirements and recommend suitable technology solutions.
- Prepare project plans, reports, budgets and technical documentation.
- Lead RFP, RFQ and RFI preparation and support technical solution selection.
- Maintain system security controls and review enterprise processing standards.
- Study new cloud technologies and recommend service improvements.
- Resolve system issues and provide technical guidance across City divisions.
- Manage vendor relations and review risks connected to enterprise systems.
- Support hardware and software change management activities.
- Monitor project milestones and coordinate project resources.
- Establish city wide standards for high availability and system performance.
- Respond to critical alerts and support enterprise systems during on-call periods.
Requirements
- Post secondary education in Computer Science or a related discipline is required, or an approved equivalent mix of education and work background.
- Extensive project management work background across all stages of complex enterprise information management projects is required.
- Extensive work background in planning, evaluation, design, implementation and integration of enterprise products within large computing and telecommunication environments is required.
- Work background supervising and coaching staff and consultants on projects or ongoing operations is required.
- Work background providing technical support for enterprise servers, client computing, enterprise directories, printing systems, backup solutions, database systems and messaging platforms is required.
- Strong knowledge of IT Infrastructure and Operations within Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Office 365, Service Now, Network Security and ITIL is required.
- Work background with E service or E business infrastructure projects and migration from on premise systems to cloud based solutions would be considered an asset.
- Work background with Cloud computing, SDI, SDN, Internet security technologies, load balancing technologies and networking systems would be considered an asset.
- Work background with programming and scripting languages such as Java, Python, Powershell, Bash, Ruby, Perl or Javascript would be considered an asset.
- Can establish effective consulting relationships with divisional clients and vendors with strong customer service focus.
- Can lead technical change processes from planning through implementation stages.
- Can work independently under pressure and can work with teams when required.
- Strong knowledge of provincial and municipal information models and operations would be considered an asset.
- Must be able to drive and travel across various City office locations.
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation is required.
