Job Description
- The candidate will be involved at the core of construction and commissioning of new mechanical equipment, using technical expertise to resolve complex technical queries.
- The candidate must handle a range of complex engineering assignments, including construction inspection, testing and commissioning, and outage staging and planning for mechanical equipment installations.
- The candidate will provide construction oversight on major projects, working closely with contractors to ensure proper coordination and staging of activities.
- The candidate must ensure that tests and inspections are performed, witnessed, and documented in accordance with approved procedures, contracts, specifications, drawings, and industry standards, including coordination of field reviews and witness/hold point inspections.
- The candidate must be familiar with data acquisition techniques and instrumentation tools, using them to gather and analyze field measurements and perform integration testing of mechanical equipment.
- The candidate will develop innovative engineering solutions, applying new approaches and existing standards in creative ways to resolve complex and unusual engineering problems independently.
- The candidate must maintain strong relationships with design engineering teams and act as the field representative of the POR to verify build quality and support functional integration testing of new equipment.
- The candidate will manage multiple project work packages, including prioritization, risk assessment, budget control, equipment acceptance, schedule tracking, and issuance of construction and commissioning reports.
- The candidate will use commissioning experience to coordinate equipment testing and outage staging, working with contractors, testers, and Station Field Operations teams to ensure testing progress.
- The candidate will share knowledge, mentor engineers and technical staff, and provide technical guidance, instruction, and support for professional development.
- The candidate will develop and maintain effective professional relationships with internal colleagues and stakeholders to manage priorities, assess impacts, resolve issues, and coordinate with Station Field Operations.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must hold a Mechanical Engineering degree recognized by Canadian universities, or alternatively a directly applicable Mechanical Technologist diploma, along with continuous professional development through ongoing studies and participation in technical and professional societies.
- The candidate must be registered or eligible for immediate registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or alternatively hold a Professional Licensee Engineering (P.L.Eng) designation with EGBC.
- The candidate must have a minimum of eight years of relevant experience, including work in electric utilities, with preference given to experience in generating station mechanical system design, control, testing, commissioning, and startup of rotating machinery, hydraulic controls, digital governors, gates, valves (including penstock and turbine inlet valves), piping, pressure vessels, hoists, and HVAC systems.
- The candidate must have knowledge of ASME, ASTM, IEEE, IEC, and CEATI standards related to the design, installation, testing, and operation of hydroelectric governors and rotating machinery.
- Knowledge and familiarity with NERC PRC and MOD standards (PRC-019, MOD-025/026/027) is considered an asset.
- The candidate must possess well-developed verbal and written communication skills, along with strong presentation, team leadership, interpersonal, and facilitation abilities.
- The candidate must be a team player who is approachable, takes initiative, and demonstrates strong problem-solving skills.
