Job Description
- he candidate will be responsible for implementing archaeological management across lines of business, fostering key regulatory relationships and relationships with First Nations organizations, contributing to the development of standards and best practices, planning annual work and budgets for archaeology management, managing province-wide regulatory compliance programs, preparing archaeological and heritage management and mitigation plans, leading multi-party technical working groups, developing mitigation, monitoring and protection planning, and managing contractors responsible for fieldwork and impact assessment.
- The candidate must possess experience in heritage management for small to large-scale construction projects throughout all project phases, including projects undergoing Environmental Assessment review processes.
- The candidate will be responsible for managing archaeological or environmental contractors.
- The candidate must maintain effective communication with regulatory agencies.
- The candidate will be responsible for engaging in public and stakeholder consultation.
- The candidate will be responsible for consulting with First Nations and Aboriginal communities.
- The candidate will be responsible for implementing or using cultural or Traditional Land Use Studies.
- The candidate must possess advanced technical writing skills and prepare technical reports, including reports for regulators and senior management within BC Hydro.
- The candidate must be able to negotiate with contractors, regulators, stakeholders, and First Nations on heritage issues.
- The candidate must have an awareness of and interest in BC Hydro’s strategic direction.
- The candidate must be able to communicate technical information during public meetings, consultations, and hearings.
Job Requirements
- The candidate should hold a university degree or post-graduate degree in social sciences or resource management with a major in Archaeology and/or Anthropology and experience in research, scientific studies, investigative methods, report preparation, and project management.
- The candidate must have a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible technical leadership experience conducting investigative archaeological studies, including coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and managing regulatory relations.
- The candidate must possess strong analytical and planning skills along with a comprehensive understanding of cultural heritage and archaeology issues, including historic and current Aboriginal issues.
- The candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication capabilities.
- The candidate must be a Registered Professional Consulting Archaeologist (RPCA) with the British Columbia Association of Professional Archaeologists (BCAPA) or demonstrate clear qualifications to obtain RPCA registration with BCAPA.
- The candidate must maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing as a condition of employment.
