Job Description
- The candidate will be responsible for conducting focus audits and inspections across various industries in BC to ensure compliance with BC tax laws through correspondence and fieldwork.
- The candidate will be required to complete 3.5 to 4.5 inspections or focus audits weekly with high accuracy using financial expertise to assess records and systems.
- The candidate will experience diverse challenges, including educating taxpayers and identifying non-compliance, with opportunities for career growth toward roles such as Inspection Team Leader and, for those pursuing a professional accounting designation, Auditor or Senior Auditor within CTAB.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must hold a degree in a related discipline such as financial management, administrative law, investigation and enforcement, along with 1 year of related experience.
- The candidate must hold a diploma in a related discipline such as financial management, administrative law, investigation and enforcement, and 3 years of related experience.
- The candidate must hold certification in a related discipline such as financial management, administrative law, investigation and enforcement, along with 4 years of related experience.
- The candidate may be considered based on an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- The candidate must hold a valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence or equivalent, with no L restrictions as of the job posting closing date.
- The candidate must have a minimum of one year experience in Financial Management and/or Accounting.
- The candidate will be required to have at least one year of experience in interpreting and applying legislation.
- The candidate must have a minimum of two years experience using Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level, including working with multiple worksheets, sorting and filtering large data sets, and applying basic formulas.
- The candidate must have experience working with the application of policies and procedures to encourage voluntary compliance.
- The candidate must have experience working independently in the field.
- The candidate must have experience working with the administration of BC statutes such as the Provincial Sales Tax Act, Motor Fuel Tax Act, Carbon Tax Act, or Tobacco Tax Act.
- The candidate must have experience with full financial cycle accounting.
- The candidate must be willing and able to travel within the province.
- The candidate must reside in British Columbia at the time of employment as per BC Public Service guidelines.
