Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for supervising, planning, and coordinating parks partner programs within the Parks and Capital Projects Department.
  • The candidate will report to the Parks Urban Forestry Manager and support the development and delivery of community engagement and volunteer management programs related to parks and recreational spaces.
  • The candidate will plan and implement volunteer management procedures, work plans, and community engagement initiatives in collaboration with parks operations staff and community stakeholders.
  • The candidate will recommend strategies for improving parks engagement programs and assist in setting priorities for related initiatives.
  • The candidate will supervise and guide a team involved in specialized park work, particularly focused on volunteer coordination and community engagement activities.
  • The candidate will maintain positive working relationships with all parks operational teams and support collaboration across departments.
  • The candidate will exercise a considerable degree of independent judgment in planning and implementing program activities.
  • The candidate will contribute to promoting community participation and strengthening engagement between the City and residents through parks-based programs.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must have a university degree in urban forestry, recreation and leisure, sports, leadership, or a related field.
  • The candidate must have relevant work experience, including supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The candidate must possess a valid British Columbia Driver’s Licence.
  • The candidate must have strong knowledge of parks community engagement principles, practices, and program development.
  • The candidate must understand the operations of park maintenance and related community programs.
  • The candidate must be familiar with work planning, policy development, and strategic implementation related to parks and community initiatives.
  • The candidate with experience in urban forestry-related community programming will be preferred.
