Job Description
- The candidate will be responsible for leading the Province’s geoscience publication process as the senior geoscientist.
- The candidate must ensure that all maps, reports, and data products meet rigorous scientific and technical standards.
- The candidate will be responsible for overseeing peer review, editing, and production activities to ensure the quality and accuracy of geoscience publications.
- The candidate will be required to provide clear and reliable information to academic, industry, and investment audiences in support of mineral exploration activities.
- The candidate will be responsible for managing the Survey’s publication catalogue and maintaining publication records.
- The candidate will be required to coordinate key outreach initiatives, including the BCGS Open House.
- The candidate will be responsible for developing materials that promote Survey products, initiatives, and Ministry priorities.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration within six (6) months of employment, as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC). Confirmation of registration or eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
- The candidate must possess a Master of Science Degree in Geoscience (preferred), Physical Geography, or Environmental Science and a minimum of three (3) years of relevant academic or government science experience.
- The candidate must possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geoscience, Physical Geography, or Environmental Science and at least five (5) years of relevant academic or government science experience.
- The applicant may be considered if they possess an equivalent level of related education and professional experience.
- The candidate will be required to demonstrate experience in the preparation of research plans and the completion of geoscience studies intended for publication.
- The candidate will be required to demonstrate experience in geoscience fieldwork, the editing and production management of technical geological publications, and/or the promotion of scientific information.
- The candidate must have a minimum of five (5) peer-reviewed government or scientific journal publications.
- Preference may be given to applicants who possess experience in the review and editing of scientific literature.
- The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
