Job Description

  • Associate Corporate Buyer is a full time permanent purchasing position supporting City procurement services.
  • The role follows a hybrid work model with a Monday to Friday routine of 35 hours per week.
  • The position supports purchasing processes and procurement activities across City divisions.
  • The role includes supplier interaction, purchasing administration and contract support.
  • The position offers competitive hourly pay and works from City Hall in Toronto.
  • The role is part of a team that supports fair and efficient purchasing services.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Corporate Buyers and Senior Corporate Buyers with competitive procurement processes.
  • Assist with preparing product specifications and scopes of work.
  • Edit and process purchasing requisitions.
  • Conduct invitational call processes following purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Work with suppliers regarding delivery, quality and purchasing requirements.
  • Operate the City’s purchasing system to process purchase orders, quotation requests and proposal calls.
  • Review bid summaries and confirm specifications and mandatory requirements are met.
  • Process purchase order amendments and contract renewals.
  • Prepare purchase orders, price agreements and related purchasing documents.
  • Assist with reviewing and following up on non competitive procurement requests.
  • Maintain purchasing databases and document records.
  • Respond to inquiries related to purchasing activities.
  • Prepare administrative reports and related correspondence.

Requirements

  • Possess or be working toward a certificate from a recognized Purchasing program or have an approved combination of education and relevant work background.
  • Work background in purchasing, preferably within a municipal environment.
  • Work background working with purchasing policies and procedures including non competitive procurements and purchase order amendments.
  • Work background using computerized purchasing systems such as SAP or Ariba.
  • Considerable work background using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong knowledge of the City’s purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written interaction skills and customer service skills.
  • Can work independently when required.
  • Can work additional hours during busy periods such as year end.
  • Can search, read, understand and apply the City’s purchasing procedures.
  • Good knowledge of products and services used by the City and its Agencies and Corporations is considered an asset.
