Region Protection Officer
The Government of Yukon has released a notification in which they’re inviting candidates for the post of Region Protection Officer. They are responsible for assisting in the planning, coordination and evaluation of all aspects of fire management activities including directly managing and supervising resources. They will maintain strong working relationships with the community including First Nations, municipal governments as well as collaborating closely with industry partners.

Job description
- Candidates will supervise seasonal staff that may include initial attack wildfire crews, logistics and finance staff, fire lookout towers and regional facilities.
- They will manage a variety of full, modified and monitored wildfire responses and the resources assigned to those responses.
- They will fulfil the branch’s mandate to reduce wildfire risk through the development of community protection plans, large-scale fuel treatment operations and community focused wildfire risk reduction initiatives.
Job requirement
- Candidates must pass and maintain Medical Clearance.
- They must possess a valid Yukon Class 5 Driver’s License.
- They should have restricted Operator Certificate with Aeronautical Qualification.
- They must pass and maintain moderate fitness tests.
- They must be working and living in remote locations under rudimentary conditions for extended periods of time.
Work setting
- Candidates must experience managing pre-suppression and wildfire suppression resources.
- They should have experience in supervising staff like leading, directing and financial management like procurement methods and procedures.
- They should have experience in working as a Duty Officer.
