Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for directly facilitating, guiding, and serving as the lead instructor for recreation programs, licensed programs, and/or camps, while assisting with complex programming and the implementation of licensed child care, day camps, and youth leadership programming.
  • The candidate will be responsible for assessing program outcomes, implementing minor improvements, and recommending necessary changes to a supervisor.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing on-site supervision to supporting Recreation Leaders and offering on-site assistance and guidance to Access staff assisting children with extra support needs.
  • The candidate will be responsible for responding to immediate parent or participant feedback, initiating reviews of the causes, communicating outcomes to the supervisor and customer, and following up with outside agencies, including Public Health and School District designates, regarding licensing and program requirements.
  • The candidate will be responsible for monitoring and correcting participant behavior while enforcing established rules and policy.
  • The candidate will be responsible for recommending changes to program procedures to a supervisor to improve participant safety and experience and implementing approved changes.
  • The candidate will be responsible for completing required documentation, incident reports, first aid occurrence records, communication logs for the immediate team, and communication reports for supervisors as required.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing cleaning duties within the immediate program area, including cleaning supplies and equipment.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must have completed Grade 12, supplemented by courses related to the work, along with some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • The candidate must have sound knowledge of the fundamentals of program leadership and instruction for preschool, children, youth, and adults.
  • The candidate must have sound knowledge of the social, cultural, and recreational needs and interests of preschool, children, youth, and adults.
  • The candidate must have sound knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures, and policies governing the work, as well as modern office methods and procedures.
  • The candidate must have the ability to participate in planning and implementing programs and activities and provide leadership and instruction for them.
  • The candidate must have the ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • The candidate must have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with program participants, parents, and external agencies.
  • The candidate must have the ability to participate in the supervision, recruitment, and training of volunteers and subordinate Recreation Leader staff engaged in various recreational and social programs and activities.
  • The candidate must have skill in the operation of equipment used in the work.
  • The candidate must possess a valid Driverโ€™s License for the Province of British Columbia.
  • The candidate must possess a valid Standard First Aid and CPR โ€“ Level C certification.
