Job Description
- The candidate will be responsible for supporting police operations and community safety as part of the team at the Coquitlam RCMP Detachment.
- The candidate will be required to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including two day shifts, two night shifts, and four consecutive days off.
- The candidate will be responsible for operating police communications equipment.
- The candidate will be responsible for determining the priority of incoming calls.
- The candidate will be responsible for controlling the deployment of police resources.
- The candidate will be responsible for dispatching police units in response to service calls.
- The candidate will be responsible for responding to 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency calls.
- The candidate will be responsible for gathering information, generating reports, and providing information to the public on a variety of matters.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must possess a high school diploma.
- The candidate must have previous experience in police dispatching and call taking.
- The candidate must possess considerable knowledge of the methods and procedures used to operate police radio, telephone, CAD, and related equipment.
- The candidate should have geographical knowledge of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and the surrounding communities, along with working knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, the Motor Vehicle Act, and other appropriate bylaws and regulations, as these will be considered assets.
- The candidate should have completed additional courses in Criminology, Psychology, Public Safety Communications, Conflict Resolution, Crisis Intervention, or related disciplines, as these are preferred.
- The candidate must remain poised and tactful in stressful situations while demonstrating sound judgement and excellent listening, communication, and decision-making skills.
- The candidate must have the ability to think clearly and quickly in emergency situations and perform with accuracy.
