Job Description
- The candidate must meet requirements as per the IBEW Collective Agreement.
- The candidate will undertake work on communications, protection, and control equipment and systems as assigned.
- The candidate will perform maintenance on protection, communication, and control systems in BC Hydro, including equipment used for detecting and responding to power system faults, controlling system devices, and supporting data and voice transfer throughout the province.
- The candidate will install and maintain substation equipment, generator control systems, excitation systems, and governors.
- The candidate will install and maintain protective relaying equipment used for detecting and responding to power system faults, as well as control equipment including SCADA systems and programmable logic controllers.
- The candidate will install and maintain a variety of telecommunications equipment, including microwave systems, power line carrier equipment, VHF/UHF radio systems, teleprotection systems, telephone systems, and SCADA equipment.
- The candidate will analyze fault records to verify equipment performance, oversee testing of plant equipment, and prepare technical reports.
- The candidate will carry out commissioning procedures and acceptance tests for newly installed and upgraded equipment.
- The candidate will review and maintain drawings associated with protection, control, and communications systems.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must meet requirements as per the IBEW Collective Agreement.
- The candidate must have completed a national diploma program in Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, preferably with a power and/or communications option.
- The candidate must hold a valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s licence.
- The candidate must be eligible for registration with ASTTBC (Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia).
- The candidate must demonstrate computer literacy in English.
- The candidate must possess strong mechanical aptitude.
- The candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively deal with employees and internal and external customers, and interact successfully with Mechanics, Electricians, and Technologists.
- The candidate is required to maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
