Job Description

  • The Project Manager Capital Projects & Initiatives position supports energy and infrastructure projects within the City of Toronto Parks and Recreation division.
  • This is a full time permanent role based at North York Civic Centre and Metro Hall in Toronto, Ontario.
  • The role focuses on energy transition efforts, retrofit actions, electrical improvements and the longer run capital outlook.
  • Employees review engineering plans and help steer the actual delivery, plus back energy efficiency upgrades across City buildings.
  • The workplace includes regular interaction with consultants, contractors, City divisions, agencies and community groups.
  • This non union position follows a Monday to Friday work schedule with 35 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Lead energy and carbon reduction capital projects from planning through completion.
  • Review mechanical, electrical and architectural drawings for feasibility and project alignment.
  • Conduct energy assessments and support electrical upgrade planning activities.
  • You also end up analyzing energy savings numbers and creating cost benefit checks for each project.
  • On the paperwork side, you prepare RFPs and tender materials, along with technical requirements for the work to be done.
  • Supervise contractors, consultants and project staff during project delivery.
  • Help support policy development that’s connected to the City’s Energy related plans.
  • Keep an eye on project budgets, spending and their financial performance, making sure it stays on track.
  • You watch over project budgets, outlay, and overall financial results so things stay steady.
  • Support grant identification and application processes connected to energy initiatives.

Requirements

  • Applicants should have post secondary education in Electrical Engineering, Building Science or an equivalent combination of education and work history.
  • Professional Engineer designation in Ontario within a mechanical or electrical discipline is required.
  • PMP, CEM, CMVP or LEED credentials would be considered an asset.
  • Candidates should have extensive work history managing large scale electrical and energy efficiency projects.
  • Strong knowledge of feasibility studies, construction management, budgeting and procurement activities is expected.
  • Applicants should have extensive work history interpreting electrical distribution drawings and related technical documents.
  • Strong background preparing capital cost estimates, technical reports and financial reviews for energy projects is required.
  • Candidates should have deep knowledge of energy conservation strategies and building energy modeling tools such as RETScreen, EnergyPlus or IES VE.
  • Familiarity with Ontario Building Code, Electrical Code, Fire Code, ISO 50001, ASHRAE, OHSA and related legislation is important.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation based interaction skills are required.
