Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for interpreting O&P standards and advising business units on risk, controls, and compliance expectations.
  • The candidate will act as a representative of BC Hydro in interactions and communications with WECC and other regulatory organizations.
  • The candidate will build strong relationships with peer utilities to stay aligned with regulatory oversight trends.
  • The candidate will be responsible for monitoring emerging standards, assessing their impact, leading internal reviews, and coordinating responses.
  • The candidate will be responsible for delivering training and coaching to enhance organizational understanding and readiness.
  • The candidate will be responsible for identifying opportunities to strengthen governance, oversight, and assurance practices.
  • The candidate will be responsible for conducting assurance activities, including compliance assessments, control reviews and testing, and contributing to mitigation planning and execution.
  • The candidate will be responsible for reviewing compliance narratives, evidence, and internal controls using technical knowledge and controls expertise and recommending improvements to practices and tools.
  • The candidate will be responsible for reviewing and endorsing evidence and documentation and preparing reports and trend analyses for leadership.
  • The candidate will be responsible for collaborating with operations and planning teams to align technical practices with regulatory requirements.
  • The candidate will be responsible for participating in incident investigations, providing compliance expertise, and making final compliance determinations.
  • The candidate will be responsible for preparing and contributing to regulatory filings, including standards adoption assessments and incident reporting.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate will be required to demonstrate substantial experience in electrical grid operations and planning within NERC O&P or comparable regulatory frameworks.
  • The candidate must demonstrate strong strategic thinking skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional environments and regulatory engagement activities.
  • The candidate must possess strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex standards and build trust across diverse teams.
  • The candidate must demonstrate leadership abilities, including mentoring others, influencing outcomes, and delivering results in complex environments.
  • The candidate must possess a university degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience in Mandatory Reliability Standards compliance.
  • The candidate will be required to have at least 10 years of experience within the electric utility sector and experience in senior compliance roles.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to balance technical knowledge with strategic thinking when addressing compliance matters.
  • The candidate must have experience translating complex requirements into practical and actionable guidance.
  • The candidate must demonstrate curiosity, integrity, and adaptability in the workplace.
  • The candidate should have familiarity with maintenance, planning, real-time operations, vegetation management, and other activities related to the electrical grid.
  • The candidate should hold a Registered Professional Engineer designation or an equivalent professional certification.
  • Familiarity with NERC, EEI, WECC, or similar governance frameworks is considered an asset.
  • The candidate must maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing as a condition of employment.
