Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for performing power flow, short-circuit, contingency, transfer, and stability studies, including transient, small-signal, voltage, and frequency stability assessments.
  • The candidate will be responsible for conducting bulk power system studies using industry-standard software tools.
  • The candidate will be responsible for carrying out advanced and specialized studies using tools such as PSS®E, DSATools, and PSCAD.
  • The candidate will be responsible for supporting and contributing to the development of generation, load, transmission, and transformer models.
  • The candidate will be responsible for developing and recommending system upgrade strategies and mitigation plans to address system constraints and reliability issues.
  • The candidate will be responsible for establishing, reviewing, and enhancing transmission planning and study methodologies and processes.
  • The candidate will be responsible for preparing technical study reports, including model validation reports required for regulatory compliance.
  • The candidate will be responsible for presenting study results and technical reports to clients.
  • The candidate will be responsible for assisting with proposal development in response to requests for proposals (RFPs) and defining scopes of work to meet client needs.
  • The candidate will be responsible for participating in the development and testing of new software releases.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must possess a Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university with a focus on Power Systems, including Power Systems Analysis, Modeling Techniques, and Computational Algorithms. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.
  • The candidate must possess a minimum of 8 years of electrical engineering experience at the senior level, including expertise in power system planning and operational studies, power system research, software development for power system analysis, and customer support.
  • The candidate must possess a strong understanding of power system studies, including stability analysis, fault analysis, and EMT simulations.
  • The candidate must be registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
  • The candidate must possess solid knowledge of power system modeling and analytical methods, including steady-state studies, power flow analysis, contingency analysis, voltage stability studies, short-circuit analysis, and transient and small-signal stability studies in both time and frequency domains.
  • The candidate will be required to demonstrate knowledge of generator modeling, renewable resource modeling, protection systems, and control systems associated with synchronous generators and FACTS devices.
  • The candidate must possess general knowledge of power system operations, protection, grid voltage control, frequency control, and applicable reliability standards.
  • he candidate should have proficiency in power system simulation software such as DSATools, PSS®E, PSCAD, or DIgSILENT, which is considered an asset.
  • The candidate must have experience programming in one or more languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C/C++.
  • The candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to listen actively and foster open dialogue with project team members.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and quality in all aspects of their work.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining a high standard of professionalism.
  • The candidate must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
