Job Description

  • The candidate must be able to handle animals.
  • The candidate must monitor animal health.
  • The candidate will be responsible for tracking and reporting on the current feed inventory.
  • The candidate will be responsible for feeding and tending animals.
  • The candidate must operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment.
  • The candidate must clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens.
  • The candidate must detect disease and health issues in crops, livestock, and poultry.
  • The candidate must write daily basic progress reports.
  • The candidate must set and monitor water lines, air flow, and temperature in barns, pens, and chicken coops.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language.
  • There are no standard education requirements such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
  • Candidate having experience is an asset.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.
  • The candidate should have effective interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate should have good judgemental skills.

Work site environment

  • Farm operations include broiler and meat-type chicken production, chicken farming, and turkey farming.
  • The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.
  • The candidate must be able to work in dusty, hot, and wet/damp conditions.
  • The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration even in such conditions.
  • The candidate must work in an environment with a high concentration of odours.

Work setting

  • The candidate should work in a rural area; most people live or work on farms or ranches. Hamlets, villages, towns, and other small settlements are in or surrounded by rural areas.

Experience and specialization

Equipment and machinery experience

  • The candidate must have experience operating feeding and watering systems, tractors, farm trucks, and loaders.

Automated systems experience

  • The candidate must have experience operating automated environmental control equipment.

Security and safety

  • The candidate must be bondable.

Transportation/travel information

  • The candidate must have a valid driver’s licence.

Work conditions and physical capabilities

  • The candidate should be able to work in fast-paced busy environment.
  • The candidate should be prepared to perform physically demanding tasks as part of their daily work.
  • The candidate should be required to perform repetitive tasks on frequent basis.
  • The candidate should have an eye for details.
  • The candidate should be willing to work overtime if necessary.
  • The candidate must be willing to walk for long periods of time.
