Job Description

  • The candidate must prepare tenders and quotations.
  • The candidate must instruct apprentices.
  • The candidate must supervise other workers.
  • The candidate will be responsible for applying successive coats of compound and sand joints and seams.
  • The candidate will be responsible for applying, levelling, and smoothing plaster coats.
  • The candidate will be responsible for cleaning and preparing surfaces.
  • The candidate must cure freshly plastered surfaces.
  • The candidate must cut and install metal corner beads to protect exterior corners.
  • The candidate must fabricate and install suspended metal ceiling grids and place panels to form acoustical and coffered ceilings.
  • The candidate must use a trowel and a broad knife to fill joints, nail indentations, holes, and cracks with joint compound.
  • The candidate must finish corners and angles and create decorative designs in finish coat if required.
  • The candidate must be able to measure, cut, fit, and install drywall sheets.
  • The candidate must mix the plaster ingredients to desired consistency.
  • The candidate will be responsible for moulding and installing ornamental plaster panels, cornices, and trim.
  • The candidate will be responsible for positioning and securing sheets to metal or wooden studs or joists.
  • The candidate must smooth out excessย compound and allow coat to dry.
  • The candidate must spray texture or acoustic materials on the walls and ceilings.
  • The candidate must use a taping machine to cover joints and embed tape in compound.
  • The candidate will be responsible for troweling or spraying stucco coats over the exteriors of buildings to form weatherproof surfaces.
  • The candidate must attach metal or gypsum lath to studs or furring.
  • The candidate must cut openings in lathย for electrical outlets, ducts, and heating and ventilation pipes.
  • The candidate will be responsible for the installation of acoustic tile, hangers for suspended ceilings, and metal studs for composition wallboard or lath.
  • The candidate must install corner beads and wire mesh around beams to which plaster will be applied.
  • The candidate will be responsible for installing both exterior and interior steel studs.
  • The candidate must use both hand and power tools to install metal stud framing and furring for interior drywall or plaster walls and ceilings.
  • The candidate must install thermal and sound insulation, as well as vapour barriers.
  • The candidate must prepare layouts for the walls and ceiling.
  • The candidate must use a laser alignment system.
  • The candidate must estimate the costs and materials.
  • The candidate must be able to operate CADD and other computer software systems.
  • The candidate must read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings, and specifications.
  • The candidate must be able to work at heights, on swing stages or scaffolding.
  • The candidate must erect and install scaffolding, falsework, and other working platforms.
