Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for anticipating, recognizing, and evaluating physical, chemical, and biological health hazards and recommending appropriate control measures.
  • The candidate will be responsible for investigating workplace accidents.
  • The candidate will be responsible for conducting occupational hygiene assessments.
  • The candidate will be responsible for discussing physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, and industrial ventilation principles.
  • The candidate will be responsible for making and explaining decisions.
  • The candidate will be responsible for influencing and directing the actions and opinions of others while taking control of critical situations.
  • The candidate will be responsible for interpreting, applying, explaining, and enforcing WorkSafeBC regulations, policies, guidelines, and standards.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must utilize strong interpersonal and communication skills to convey potential hazards, risks, and control measures and gain compliance regarding complex health and safety hazards within various work environments.
  • The candidate must apply critical thinking to evaluate complex workplace hazards and recommend effective controls.
  • The candidate will be required to make prompt decisions and enforce outcomes based on technical expertise and objective assessment.
  • The candidate will be responsible for handling high-pressure situations, tense circumstances, and emergencies with a high level of professionalism.
  • The candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree with a major in sciences or engineering and either two (2) years of experience in occupational hygiene or three (3) years of industry experience directly related to their field of scientific study.
  • The candidate must possess a master’s degree in occupational health or hygiene and either one (1) year of direct experience in occupational hygiene or one (1) year of industry experience directly related to their undergraduate field of scientific study.
  • The candidate may be considered if they possess a suitable combination of education and relevant experience.
  • The candidate should have a solid understanding of industrial hygiene principles and practices, health sciences, and technical sciences.
  • The candidate must possess general knowledge of occupational health and safety principles and demonstrate the ability to apply them through education and/or formal experience in OH&S.
  • The candidate must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time permanent basis.
