Job Description

  • The candidate will provide emergency services to individuals and families as a Child Protection Worker with the South Fraser Response Team.
  • The candidate will ensure the safety and well-being of at-risk children.
  • The candidate will help families navigate difficult and crisis situations.
  • The candidate will work independently in high-pressure situations where professional expertise is required.
  • The candidate must promote safety and inclusivity within the community through their work.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or Child & Youth Care, or a Master’s Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology or a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare.
  • The candidate must be an in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employee holding a regular SPO 24–30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • The candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or when they hold a letter confirming their application for registration approval.
  • The candidate must confirm that education obtained outside Canada has been assessed for equivalency through International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES) and provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of the posting to be considered.
  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field, or a Bachelor’s Degree with a Major or Honours in a Human Services field, or a Master’s level graduate Certificate or Diploma in a Human Services field after completing an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
  • The candidate must possess a minimum of one (1) year of related or job-specific work experience.
  • The candidate must currently hold full delegation (C6) under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • The candidate must possess a minimum of one (1) year of job-specific experience.
  • The candidate must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence with no restrictions or an equivalent licence from another Canadian province.
  • The candidate must possess a minimum of two (2) years of recent work experience (within the last five (5) years) in Child Protection.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) and who possess the required combination of education and experience.
  • The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.

  • The candidate must undergo a Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act (CRRA) as a condition of employment.

Work conditions and physical capabilities

  • The candidate will work on a rotating schedule of four (4) days on and three (3) days off, with 8.75-hour shifts covering evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
