Job Description
- Candidates for this post are required to select and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
- They’re also required to effectively train and supervise the crew in the performance of their duties, including the safe operation, navigation and docking of the vessel.
- Candidates for this post are also required to direct staff in all boat or fire drills as prescribed by Transport Canada.
- Candidates are also required to control security drills onboard assigned vessels, including exercises with other vessels.
- They’re required at this post to assist in the preparation of vessel budgets and monitor expenditures.
- Candidates are also appointed at this post to direct the general maintenance of the assigned vessel, ensuring that approved standards working at this post.
Job requirement
- Applicants must be certified as a Master limited for vessels exceeding 60 tons to be eligible for this post.
- They must possess a Radio Operator’s Certificate in the Restricted Radiotelephone Operator category.
- Candidates must acquire extensive experience driving small vessels as a Ship’s Captain or First Officer.
- Candidates must have extensive experience in driving all city-operated ferry vessels or equivalent small vessels to be eligible for this post.
- They must possess and be willing to maintain a valid personal Marine Medical Certificate and Marine First Aid Certificate to be eligible for this post.
- They must be highly developed in conflict resolution and problem-solving to be eligible for this post.
- Candidates must have sound judgment including in public and labour relations to be eligible for this post.
Work setting
- They must have dedicated knowledge of the Toronto Harbour including, ferry service legislation, conditions etc to be eligible for this post.
