We are seeking a self-disciplined individual with exceptional interpersonal skills. The chosen applicant will be required to join and begin their duties as soon as possible. The employer offers this position as auxiliary employment for the period of July 1 to August 31.

Job Description

  • The candidate will carry out construction and maintenance duties using both hand tools and power equipment as required.
  • The candidate will work across multiple Parks Operations teams, including Sport Services, Urban Forestry, Infrastructure, Landscape, and the Park Spark Team.
  • The candidate must carry out horticulture and turf care duties such as mowing and maintaining lawns and grounds, along with planting and maintaining perennials and annuals, and assisting in the upkeep of landscaped and turf areas in parks.
  • The candidate will perform maintenance duties at Percy Perry Stadium and sports fields, with additional responsibilities including delivery and clean-up of event supplies and litter in parks and trails.
  • The candidate will perform urban forestry duties including invasive plant removal, planting and maintaining habitat restoration sites, and supporting public education and outreach.
  • The candidate will carry out infrastructure duties including park litter control, and maintaining and cleaning park playgrounds, fencing, benches, and pathways.
  • The candidate will support the Park Spark Team through volunteer outreach, Inspiration Garden care, and volunteer support.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must have completed some high school education.
  • The candidate must have experience in general construction or maintenance work, preferably at a Labourer 1 level or equivalent.
  • The candidate must be physically capable of performing heavy manual labour for extended periods.
  • The candidate must be willing to work flexible shifts, including daytime, evenings, and weekends.
  • The candidate must hold a valid BC Driver’s Licence with a satisfactory driving record.
  • The candidate with experience in landscaping, urban forestry, or infrastructure maintenance will be preferred.
  • The candidate with training or education in landscape maintenance, construction, equipment operation, or public event support will be considered an asset.
  • The candidate with experience operating equipment such as lawn mowers, line trimmers, and trucks will be preferred.
  • The candidate with experience in customer service or volunteer engagement will be considered an asset.

  • The candidate must be able to perform repetitive physical tasks safely and efficiently.
