Java Developer

A Java Developer will be playing a key role in the Retail Customer Platform at Scotiabank and will also ensure that the technology solutions delivered are in accordance with the digital strategy of the bank. Job Description

  • The position of a Java Developer is to participate in the development of the technology solutions for Scotiabank’s Retail Customer Platform.

  • Constructs and maintains reliable, java-based applications that are capable of scaling up and down according to the retail customers’ changing needs thus improving their experiences.

  • Making sure that the development conforms to the internal company policies and standards, governance, and regulatory norms. Works together with various departments to help the bank’s digital plans at a larger scale.
  • Building relationships through partnering with key customers, aligning our solutions to their business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a culture that is customer-centric and relationship-based.
  • Analyze current systems, come up with organized object-oriented solutions, and provide support for new and existing applications.
  • Propose new changes that will be in line with the bank’s technology roadmap.
  • Clarify technical needs and give design assistance.
  • Carry out coding, testing, error-fixing, documentation, and implementation.
  • Assess the effort required for development and improve current systems.
  • Oversee the deployment of codes and take part in the reviews of codes.
  • Be there for the production, carry out root-cause analysis and help the product owners.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering (preferred).
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in system analysis, design, development, testing, and debugging so as to meet company’s particular needs.
  • Skilled at Java 8+, SQL, and relational DB skills so as to compete well in the market.
  • Be familiar with tools such as GIT, Gradle, Jira, Confluence and CI/CD that are basically the backbone of the industry.
  • Agile development methodology.
  • Knowledge of any Spring Boot/Security/Data/Batch.
  • Working knowledge of SOAP/REST and STS/Eclipse IDE.
  • Familiarity with SSL, Azure/GCP, and Splunk.
  • Good understanding of Event-driven architecture (Kafka).
  • Experience working in the banking/finance domain (2-3 years).
  • Working knowledge of SoapUI and Oracle Java certification.
