Job Description
- The candidate will support and may lead engagement and relationship-building activities with First Nations within the assigned region.
- The candidate will be responsible for implementing relationship agreement commitments with stakeholders by tracking and identifying procurement and employment opportunities.
- The candidate will coordinate, attend, and provide administrative support for meetings with First Nations.
- The candidate will be responsible for responding to inquiries from First Nations or assisting with the preparation of responses.
- The candidate will be responsible for supporting the project consultation and delivery process by leading First Nations consultation activities for low complexity projects and programs and preparing consultation plans, strategies, and budgets.
- The candidate will be responsible for supporting Project Engagement Leads on moderate to complex projects through consultation meeting preparation, commitment tracking, commitment implementation, and compliance with project regulatory requirements.
- The candidate will be responsible for coordinating with Indigenous Relations (IR) Project Analysts to process and pay invoices and relationship funding commitments.
- The candidate will be responsible for maintaining databases that store First Nation project, relationship, and contact information.
- The candidate will provide advice and guidance to BC Hydro employees and contractors on protocols for contacting and tracking First Nations contacts while aligning with First Nations protocols and adhering to established records management practices.
- The candidate will provide research and analytical support for meetings on Indigenous matters and conduct research to draft briefing notes and presentations.
- The candidate will coordinate action items resulting from regional dashboards to track performance related to agreement management with Project Engagement Leads, including progression and exception reporting.
- The candidate will be responsible for monitoring annual relationship work plans in the systems, reporting on work plan budgets, identifying operational and capital budget issues, and recommending budget reallocations when required.
- The candidate will assist IR Team Leads with the resource allocation of new projects for the assigned region, make recommendations on resource allocations by reviewing project requirements and resource availability, and discuss projects and assignments with Project Engagement Leads to confirm project participation.
- The candidate will provide technical support and training to regional staff, consultants, and First Nations representatives on systems such as ARIES, SharePoint, and other tools used to support and track engagement activities, and provide guidance to IR staff on system and data integrity issues.
- The candidate will perform duties of a minor nature related to the above responsibilities that do not affect the rating of the job.
Job Requirements
- The candidate will be required to hold a Diploma in Communications or Social Science, or a Degree in Public Administration, Economic Development, Law, Indigenous Studies, Communications, Social Sciences, Anthropology, Resource Management, or a related discipline.
- The candidate must have four (4) years of experience in a role involving Indigenous communities, including their governance, cultures, history, and interests.
- The candidate should have completed courses in applicable Indigenous or equivalent cross-cultural awareness and budgeting and cost control, which are considered assets.
- The candidate must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
