Comox Valley Transition Society, situated at Courtenay, BC V9N 2N5, is seeking applications for the job position of Housing Support Worker who is enthusiastic and possesses excellent interpersonal skills. The selected applicant must join and assume their responsibilities at the earliest. The employer is offering Casual employment or part-time leading to a full-time position. The candidate must be available to work early morning, morning, day, evening, night, and weekend shifts, as well as on a shift basis, with on-call and flexible hours.

Job Description

  • The candidate must administer first aid and provide other assistance.
  • The candidate must provide suicide and crisis intervention.
  • The candidate must resolve conflict situations.
  • The candidate must perform housekeeping activities.
  • The candidate must have strong food safety and handling skills.
  • The candidate must assist clients or guests with special needs.
  • The candidate must liaise with social service agencies and health care providers involved with clients.
  • The candidate must establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children.
  • The candidate must accompany clients to appointments and social outings.
  • The candidate must manage knowledge effectively.
  • The candidate must offer mentoring.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • The candidate must have a College/CEGEP education in social work or a related field.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 2 to 3 years of experience in a related industry.
  • The candidate must have a Mental Health First Aid Certificate, a First Aid Certificate, a CPR Certificate, a Cultural Awareness Training Certification, a Food Safety Certificate, a Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate, and an Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) Certification.
  • The candidate should be client-focused.
  • The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate should be organized and flexible.
  • The candidate must be interpersonally aware.
  • The candidate should have good judgmental skills.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.
  • The candidate should give importance to values and ethics.
  • The candidate must be capable of acting on their own initiative.

  • The candidate must work in environments addressing personal and social adjustment and health issues (substance abuse, gambling, behaviour disorders) as well as socio-economic conditions, including housing, nutrition, unemployment, and financial assistance.

  • The candidate should work in associations and non-profit organizations, a legal entity organized and operated for a collective, public, or social benefit.

Experience and specialization

  • The candidate must have experience in caring for children, females, and families.
