Health & Safety Officer 1 is a full time temporary opportunity with the City of Toronto, kind of like a short term “right now” role that still comes with real impact. Job Description
- Roll out corporate health and safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Make sure occupational health and safety legislation is followed, consistently.
- Drive health and safety initiatives across Parks and Recreation facilities.
- Look into workplace incidents and suggest meaningful corrective actions.
- Put in place and keep an eye on health, and safety programs plus those little initiatives that actually stick.
- Join Ministry of Labour inspections and help with investigations, when needed.
Responsibilities
- Advise management, and staff on occupational health and safety compliance, in a real world way.
- Carry out workplace assessments, do job demand analysis, and also ergonomic evaluations.
- Look into workplace accidents, then pinpoint root causes instead of just the obvious.
- Lead health and safety audits, and suggest improvements that are practical.
- Create health and safety policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks that people can follow.
- Design, and deliver health and safety education training programs, with plain language.
- Review incident data, and craft reports for management, so nothing gets missed.
- Coordinate health and safety committees and working groups, sometimes with tight timelines.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education, or certification in Occupational Health & Safety (like CRSP or CRST) or a similar mix of education and experience.
- A good amount of experience providing occupational health and safety consultation in a unionized workplace, where dynamics matter.
- Support return-to-work programs and help with workplace accommodation initiatives.
- Handle the documentation required under occupational health and safety legislation, end to end.
