Farmers Fresh Mushrooms based in Abbotsford, BC is looking suitable candidates for the position of Harvesting Labourer who are self-motivated and have good interpersonal skills. Farmers’ Fresh Mushrooms produces a diverse range of conventional and specialty mushrooms for the retail and wholesale food industries in North America. Farmers Fresh products are sold under the Farmers Fresh brand, or they are custom packaged for private labels. Farmers’ Fresh farms sell over 40 different types of mushrooms and mushroom products.

Our standard and specialty products are available in bulk or packaged form, and we specialise in custom packaging and labelling. Farmers’ Fresh farms have achieved the Gold Standard in food safety. We strictly adhere to the Canadian Mushroom Grower Association guidelines and its On-Farm Food Safety programme, which complies with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s Food Safety Enhancement Program and the international standards set by the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points.

We also have an annual food safety audit performed by Primus Labs, which includes a micro-analysis of our water sources, the environment, our production, and the final product. Job Description

  • The candidate would be responsible for sorting and packing fruits and vegetables.
  • The candidate will be expected to keep work areas clean, orderly, and well-organized.
  • The candidate will be required to pick row and orchard crops
  • The candidate would be responsible for selecting and picking of produce according to size and ripeness and disregard rotting and over ripped produce.
  • The candidate will be in charge of harvesting crops that are ready for market.
  • The candidate must load, unload, and transfer crates, supplies, farm produce, livestock, and poultry.
  • The candidate will be responsible for inspecting each fruit item to ensure its freshness.
  • The candidate will be in charge of trimming overgrown and shabby crops.
  • The candidate will be in charge of nurturing crops in the garden so that they do not wilt in wet soil.
  • The candidate must place each fruit or stack of fruits into the appropriate bags or packs.
  • The candidate will be required to count and weigh quantities, as well as adjust quantities to ensure uniformity of bags or boxes.
  • The candidate must load bags and packages onto trays and racks.
  • The candidate must record information such as quantity, weight, time, and dates of packing.
  • The candidate will be expected to supervise and assist with container filling.
  • The candidate will be expected to label fruits in accordance with the instructions supplied.
  • The candidate will be responsible for properly loading packed fruit containers onto delivery trucks.
  • The candidate will be expected to provide information about box care to loading and delivery workers.
  • The candidate will be required to wrap exposed layers of fruit in foil or plastic film.
  • The candidate will be expected to carefully line up fruit boxes or crates.
  • The candidate will be required to close or seal containers by placing lids on them.
  • The candidate must ensure that the nails are properly fitted so that they do not damage the fruit inside.
  • In order to place information on fruit shipment documentation, the candidate will be required to weigh end items (boxes, packages, or crates).
  • The candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the stock facilities are kept in accordance with hygiene standards, as well as regulating the temperature, heating, and air conditioning of storage facilities.
  • The candidate must examine the quality of the product and get it ready for the market.
  • All packing and stacking duties will be performed in the field and on the farm.
  • The candidate will be expected to review work orders to determine daily fruit packing tasks.
  • The candidate will be expected to inspect machines, equipment, and containers for cleanliness and proper operation.
  • The candidate will be expected to uphold and follow food safety policies and practises.
  • The candidate would be responsible for writing daily basic progress reports

  • The candidate should be fluent in English language
  • There are no standard education requirements such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma .
  • Previous experience in the farming industry is not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of farming best practices would be an added advantage.
