Job Description

  • The candidate must clear and collect brush and debris from fields, pens, and other work areas.
  • The candidate must cut crops.
  • The candidate will be responsible for monitoring the calving process.
  • The candidate must monitor animal health.
  • The candidate must clean the work area.
  • The candidate will be responsible for fertilizing and applying pesticides to crops as needed.
  • The candidate must harvest crops.
  • The candidate must load, unload, and transfer crates, supplies, farm produce, livestock, and poultry.
  • The candidate must operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment.
  • The candidate must clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens.
  • The candidate must detect disease and health issues in crops, livestock, and poultry.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • There are no standard education requirements such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 3 to 5 years of experience in a related industry.
  • The candidate will be responsible for supervising truck drivers.
  • The candidate must be able to handle a weight of up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
  • The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate must be well-organized.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.
  • The candidate should prioritize values and ethics.
  • The candidate must be a quick learner.

Work site environment

  • Farm operations include beef cattle ranching and farming (including feedlots), hay farming, oilseed farming (excluding soybeans), grain farming, other miscellaneous crop farming, and wheat farming.
  • The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.
  • The candidate must be able to work in all weather conditions.

Work setting

  • The candidate should be willing to work in a rural area, where most people live or work on farms or ranches. Hamlets, villages, towns, and other small settlements are in or surrounded by rural areas.

Experience and specialization

Type of crops

  • The crops are grains and canola.

Equipment and machinery experience

  • The candidate must have experience operating a wide range of farm equipment and machinery, including a farm truck, forklift, loader, tractor, combine harvester, forage equipment, haying equipment, planting equipment, seed drill, sprayer or duster, swather, tillage equipment, skidsteer, as well as welding equipment and hand tools.

  • The candidate must have a valid driver’s licence.
