AshMeg Seafoods Ltd., located in Sambro, NS B3V 1L6, is seeking applications for the position of Fish Plant Worker who is enthusiastic and possesses excellent interpersonal skills. The successful candidate for this position is expected to start work as quickly as possible. The role being offered is a permanent, full-time position. The candidate must be available to work the early morning shift from 4:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Job Description

  • The candidate will be responsible for cutting and weighing fish fillets according to the specified requirements.
  • The candidate must cut, clean, and trim fish or seafood before it is marketed or further processed for sale.
  • The candidate must inspect fish fillets and determine the optimal number and size for use.
  • The candidate will be responsible for unloading fish and shellfish from fishing vessels and manually transporting them to the designated work area.
  • The candidate must scrape away scales, cut the fish, separate the fillets, and remove scraps with a knife.
  • The candidate will be responsible for transporting fish and shellfish to the work area.
  • The candidate will be responsible for inspecting products and packaging for defects, ensuring conformance to company standards, and performing corrective adjustments to machines as needed.
  • The candidate will be responsible for recording the production information.
  • The candidate must set up and operate machines to can, bag, box, or otherwise package fish and seafood products.
  • The candidate must weigh fish or shellfish, record the weight, and pack the fish in ice.
  • The candidate will be responsible for cleaning machines and immediate work areas.
  • The candidate must sort fish according to species, weight, and destination.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • There are no standard education requirements such as a bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
  • A candidate with experience is an asset.
  • The candidate must be able to lift more than 100 lbs (45 kg).

Worksite environment

  • The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration despite these conditions.
  • The candidate must work in an environment with a high concentration of odours.
  • The candidate must be able to work in cold, refrigerated and wet/damp conditions.
  • The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.

Work setting

  • The candidate’s relocation costs should not be covered by the employer; if the company does not provide a relocation package, you may request an advance on your earnings to cover some of your moving expenses.
