Job Description

  • The candidate must clear and collect brush and debris from fields, pens, and other work areas.
  • The candidate must direct agricultural crop deleafing activities.
  • The candidate must implement soil fertility programs.
  • The candidate must organize tasks to accomplish the work.
  • The candidate must manually remove all suckers and water sprouts.
  • The candidate must be familiar with soil fertility programs.
  • The candidate must tie and secure plants.
  • The candidate must train trees to produce more fruit of higher quality.
  • The candidate must perform the weeding task.
  • The candidate must assist in developing and implementing farm safety and biosecurity procedures.
  • The candidate must provide agricultural crop services such as plowing, irrigating, cultivating, spraying, or harvesting.
  • The candidate must coordinate and supervise the work of general farm workers and harvesting laborers.
  • The candidate must ensure compliance with farm safety and biosecurity procedures.
  • The candidate must supervise and oversee growing and other crop-related operations.
  • The candidate must maintain work records and logs.
  • The candidate must hire and train staff.
  • The candidate must operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment.
  • The candidate must perform general farm duties.
  • The candidate must prune trees.
  • The candidate must trim trees to achieve desired pruning objectives such as crown cleaning, thinning, raising, reduction, restoration, espalier pruning, and vista pruning.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • The candidate must have a College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year.
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 2 to 3 years of experience in a related industry.
  • The candidate must have a First Aid Certificate and a Pesticide Applicator’s License.
  • The candidate must have excellent oral communication skills.
  • The candidate must be well-organized.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.

Work site environment

  • The type of farm operation is tree and orchard fruit farming.

Work setting

  • The candidate should work in a rural area; most people live or work on farms or ranches. Hamlets, villages, towns, and other small settlements are in or surrounded by rural areas.
  • The candidate should work in staff accommodation that offers live-in accommodation when an employer provides a housing offer to its employees.

Experience and specialization

Type of crops

  • The crops are apples and cherries.

Equipment and machinery experience

  • The candidate must have experience operating automated irrigation systems, fertilizer applicators, harvesters, sprayers or dusters, tractors, forklifts, and small engine equipment.
