Job Description

The candidate must respond to customer complaints or concerns.
The candidate will be responsible for coaching colleagues on new methods or work techniques.
The candidate must have mountain driving experience.
The candidate must maintain professionalism in customer service.
The candidate must drive as part of a two-person team or convoy.
The candidate must drive lighter, special-purpose trucks.
The candidate must load and unload goods.
The candidate must operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
The candidate must inspect the vehicle’s condition, including the brakes, tires, lights, and other essential components.
The candidate must perform brake adjustments.
The candidate must be able to perform emergency roadside repairs.
The candidate will be responsible for performing pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections, as well as overseeing all vehicle aspects.
The candidate must perform preventive maintenance.
The candidate will be responsible for receiving and relaying information to central dispatch.
The candidate will be responsible for recording cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.
The candidate will be responsible for tarping and ensuring cargo safety and security.
The candidate must handle and transport dangerous goods.

Job Requirements

The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
The candidate must have a certificate of Secondary (high) school graduation or equivalent experience.
The ideal candidate must have 5+ years of experience in a related industry.
The candidate must have an AZ class license, Air Brakes Endorsement Certification, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) clearance Certificate, Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) Certificate and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certificate.
The candidate must be able to handle a weight of up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
The candidate should have effective interpersonal skills.
The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The candidate should be organized and flexible.
The candidate should have good judgmental skills.
The candidate should be reliable.
The candidate should be a good team player.

Work setting

The candidate should work from a remote location, as the practice of employees doing their jobs from a location other than a central office operated by the employer.
The candidate should work in a staff accommodation that offers live-in accommodation when an employer provides a housing offer to its employees.
The candidate must work in various locations to support employees stationed at different worksites.
The candidate should be willing to relocate and be ready to move to a new city/different city for a job.

Experience and specialization

Documentation knowledge

The candidate must be knowledgeable about accident or incident reports, bill of lading, dangerous goods occurrence reports, driver logbooks, inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip), maintenance and repair reports, trans-border documentation and trip reports.

Type of trucking and equipment

The candidate must have experience in operating dump trucks, extended-length tractor-trailer combinations, flatbeds, highway and off-highway logging trucks, refrigerated trucks, straight trucks (4,600 kg/10,000 lbs+ with 3+ axles), tow trucks, tractor-trailers, and tractor-trailer B train combinations.

Communication systems experience

The candidate must have experience in operating communication systems, including Citizens Band (CB) radios, GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment, and trip recorders (on-board computers).

Transportation/travel experience

The candidate must have transportation and travel experience at the local, provincial/territorial, and regional levels.
The candidate must have both long-haul and short-haul travel experience.

Transportation/travel information

The candidate must be able to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
The candidate must have their own vehicle.
The candidate must have a valid driver’s licence.
The candidate must be willing to travel for extended periods of time.
The candidate must be willing to travel overnight.
