Job Description
- The role of Coordinator Public Consultation conducts and supports activities among the local people for Parks and Recreation projects.
- This is a permanent and full time role with 35 hours per week from Monday to Friday.
- The role is based at Metro Hall in downtown Toronto.
- Staff work alongside public meetings, workshops, surveys and public outreach tasks as well as engagement activities.
- The position includes office based work along with event support across Toronto locations.
- Employees work in a people focused environment with city staff, consultants and members.
Responsibilities
- Plan and organize virtual and in person public meetings and workshops.
- Set-up and take down equipment and materials for engagement events.
- Supervise meetings with residents, consultants, senior staff and Councillors.
- Prepare presentation materials, surveys and meeting records.
- Create AODA compliant summary reports for engagement activities.
- Respond to phone calls and emails from staff and the public.
- Train staff on presentation methods and public engagement strategies.
- Draft reports summarizing consultation outcomes.
- Work with divisional staff and Councillors on project related matters.
- Review and maintain engagement documents and materials.
Requirements
- Must have post secondary education in social science, political science, planning, sociology, urban studies, geography, environmental studies or a related field or an equivalent mix of education and work history.
- Work history supporting public consultation projects and engagement activities is required.
- Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite like Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook and Teams.
- Also comfortable using InDesign or Adobe Illustrator sometimes.
- Strong knowledge about a variety of local cultures, languages and literacy levels in Toronto, which is really helpful day to day.
- Strong review and problem solving skills with the capacity to interpret quantitative and qualitative data.
- Can work with researching, writing and editing communication materials for flyers, letters, webpages and social media content.
- Strong knowledge of Toronto’s geography, political systems and local people.
- Strong writing skills with the capacity to explain technical information clearly to the public.
- Good public speaking skills with confidence speaking in front of groups.
- Strong organizational skills, interaction skills and attention to detail are required.
- Must be physically capable of loading, unloading and setting up event materials and equipment using a corporate vehicle.
- Must be available for evening and weekend work when required.
- Must be able to travel between work locations.
