Job Description

  • The candidate will develop plans with families to ensure the safety of children and youth through assessment and collaboration.
  • The candidate must respond to reports of suspected child abuse and neglect through assessment and intervention.
  • The candidate will interview parents, children, and youth as part of child protection assessments.
  • The candidate will assess the strengths and needs of children, youth, and families.
  • The candidate will work with appropriate agencies to support child protection planning and safety.
  • The candidate must assess whether protective intervention is required for children or youth.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or Child & Youth Care.
  • The candidate must possess a Master’s Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology or a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare.
  • The candidate must be an in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employee holding a regular SPO 24–30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • The candidate must confirm that education obtained outside Canada has been assessed for equivalency through International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES) and provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of the posting to be considered.
  • The candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or when they hold a letter confirming their application for registration approval.
  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field, or a Bachelor’s Degree with a Major or Honours in a Human Services field, or a Master’s level graduate Certificate or Diploma in a Human Services field after completing an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
  • The candidate must possess a minimum of one (1) year of related or job-specific work experience.
  • The candidate may be considered based on an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The candidate must confirm that education obtained outside Canada has been assessed for equivalency through International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES) and must provide a basic report by the closing date of the posting to be considered.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who are eligible for delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as Indigenous and who possess the required combination of education and experience.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more years of job-specific or related experience obtained within the last seven (7) years.
  • The candidate must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence with no restrictions or an equivalent licence from another Canadian province.
  • The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
