Job Description

  • The candidate must build meaningful relationships with children, youth, and families as part of the Child Protection Worker role.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Work or Child & Youth Care, or a Master’s degree in Educational Counselling Psychology or Counselling Psychology with a completed practicum in family and child welfare.
  • The candidate must be an in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employee holding a regular SPO 24–30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • The candidate must be registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers, or have a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
  • The candidate must confirm that if their education was obtained outside of Canada, it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES), and must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • The candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field, or a Bachelor’s Degree with Major/Honours in Human Services, or a Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in Human Services completed after an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree, along with at least one year of related or job-specific work experience. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • The candidate must confirm that if their education was obtained outside of Canada, it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES), and must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
  • The candidate must have completed all required courses and be able to provide a letter from their educational institution confirming completion of degree requirements, even if graduation has not yet occurred.
  • The candidate must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction, or an equivalent license from another Canadian province.
  • The candidate must be located in British Columbia at the time of employment.
